Frequently Asked Questions
In short, Restumping is replacing the foundations of your house.
In some places in Australia, it is common practice to use “stumps”, which are just posts buried vertically in the ground as the foundations.
Over time, wear and tear, soil movement and rot can mean that the stumps are unable to support the floorboards, resulting in a ‘springiness’ underfoot, uneven floors, cracking in the plasterwork, an inability to close doors and, eventually, an inability to support what’s placed on the floorboards.
Restumping (or reblocking) involves safely jacking up the house, digging out the old stumps and inserting new ones.
This may sound like a large undertaking because it is. Be sure only to use qualified and accredited companies. This is, after all, your home and castle.
These two terms can be interchanged while referring to the replacement of foundation stumps. The reason being that both processes have a similar approach.
The major difference between the processes is that while restumping or reblocking the foundation stumps are completely replaced, but in underpinning, the slabs are not replaced, they are simply reinforced with new material.
Your consultation with Tony and the Restump NSW team will determine the best course of action for your home.
Also known as Hydro Excavation, This process allows us to safely trench and excavate around existing services such as cables or pipes.
Hydro excavation is a non-mechanical, non-destructive digging and excavation process that uses pressurised water and an industrial-strength ‘vacuum’ to simultaneously excavate and evacuate soil.
As hydro excavation safely breaks up the soil, and water slurry is removed by vacuum to a debris tank.
This vastly reduces the risk to your assets and utilities caused by traditional mechanical digging methods, which results in safe, fast and precise removals that require less backfill, less abour and less restoration.
A thorough consultation with the Restump NSW team will determine if Hydro Vacuum Excavation is the best course of action for your specific situation.

If you find that the doors and windows in your home are starting to need a little extra push to open or close, or cracks are starting to appear on the interior walls, these are tell-tale signs that you need house re-levelling.
Cracks in the brickwork, bowed floors and gaps between the walls, floor or ceiling can also be bad news for homeowners. If you notice any of these signs, it’s time to get a professional assessment from a house re-leveller as soon as possible.
Please call our trained professionals right away. We’ll be happy to speak with you over the phone and, if necessary, book a physical consultation with our underpinning/restumping expert.
